Koibird

2019 — Art Direction / Identity Design / Packaging Design / Illustration

Marylebone Lane in London is home to Koibird, an eye-popping, ever-evolving shop selling an exotic, beautiful and ornamental travel wardrobe by a handpicked selection of international designers. Launched in 2018, twice a year the entire store goes through a metamorphosis, as a new theme or destination is introduced for each season. The exterior, interior, branding and packaging are completely reimagined.

We were commissioned to create the visual identity, all packaging and printed ephemera for Spring/Summer 2019, around the thematic destination of California. The only graphic constant between seasons is the bold, rounded logotype, and our identity system used the letterforms as frames for, and elements within, illustrations of classic Californian scenes. Each of the three sizes of bag had a different drawing, the heavyweight oversize swingtags took the shape of ice lollies, various cards and stickers were made, and the full Koibird logotype became a panoramic sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Working parallel to us on the interior design and shopfit was Anna Burns, the mastermind behind the wonderfully maximalist schemes for each season so far.
